The Kindle is, not surprisingly, becoming an incredibly popular piece of kit, quickly replacing traditional paperbacks or hardbacks amongst millions of avid readers worldwide. I say not surprisingly because kindles have so many advantages over traditional books:
- no more losing your page, or worse still, getting to the end of the book and finding that the last page is missing – aahhh! How will you ever know “who dunnit?”
- no more packing your suitcase with a dozen good holiday reads leaving no room for clothes - well, some people get through one a day you know, and what better way to while the hours away while baking on the beach?
- no more having to visit the library to save a bit of cash. Libraries have seen a resurgence of their popularity as many people find that they need to pull in the purse strings a bit, but a Kindle means that you don’t have to – all will be revealed in a minute
- thousands of different books, in all subjects, available to download at the push of a button. One kindle, loads of books
- Kindles are easy to use – no really, even “computer-phobes” can manage with a minimum amount of instruction – “press here”, that sort of thing

Okay, we’ve already established that Kindles are one of the marvels of the 21st century, but what about “filling them up” with free books, how does that happen? Many classic books were published so long ago that the copyright has lapsed, and they can be downloaded for free. You might not be able to find any of the best selling list for free (but you never know) but there are loads to choose from which you can, all the old classics – Beatrix Potter (my favorite!), Charles Dickens, Emily Bronte, Jane Austen. Just because you’ve seen the film or bought the t-shirt, you could still enjoy reading the books, some of them are really amazing, and FREE.
How to Download Kindle eBooks
Probably the most obvious source for your Kindle ebooks is Amazon, you can easily target your search for freebies. All you have to do is to go the bit that says “search by relevance” and change it to – “Sort by price – low to high”, and almost instantly, before your very eyes there’ll be a whole bunch of Kindle ebooks to choose from for the grand old price of $0.00. Now then, if you live outside the States, or you’re on the holiday of a lifetime and are outside the United States you might have to pay a couple of dollars for an international roaming fee, but if you make sure that your Kindle country is US you should be able to save that charge too.
